Details

It is the most prolific rifle round in the world thanks to the Cold War, but also thanks to its own dependability. Designed at the height of the Second World War, the 7.62x39 was intended to combine rifle ballistics with machinegun functionality. It was also designed with a particularly Russian attitude towards reliability under less than ideal circumstances. Given its widespread dispersal and continued use, it seems design parameters were successfully met. The hollow point, PDX1, 120 grain bullet by Winchester has a muzzle velocity of 2365 feet per second with 1490 foot pounds of energy. This is a quality made defense cartridge that is obviously perfect for use out of military surplus style rifles but it is also an ideal choice for use in a growing number of bolt action sporting rifles that are now available: the 7.62x39 is often considered the equal of the .30-30 as a competent deer rifle.

Winchester PDX1 is the premium defense line of ammunition from a company whose name epitomizes quality American firearms and ammunition. Still strongly associated with the Olin Corporation and manufactured in Clayton, Missouri, the line of Winchester Repeating Arms ammunition continues the reputation of dependable performance with reloadable cases that are sought by handloaders for their own cartridges.
