The debate of the .223 Remington being but a glorified .22 has been largely put to bed by the military and commercial acceptance of the round over the last 60 years. The .223 is the parent cartridge of the 5.56 NATO, but it is not the same: while .223 can be fired in 5.56 firearms, the 5.56 should not be fired in firearms chambered in .223. While loaded to less pressure than the NATO round, the .223's accuracy keeps it as popular caliber for target and hunting purposes. The 55 grain FMJ round has a muzzle velocity of 320 fps with 1280 foot pounds. It is ideal for training with military style, semi automatic firearms. Want this ammo in bulk quantities? The Tula Cartridge Works can easily be confused with the Tula Arsenal founded by Peter the Great in 1700. The cartridge plant DOES produce ammunition for the Russian military as well as for commercial export, both to governments and the private sector, and while demand has certainly skyrocketed over the last decade or so, Tula ammunition continues to deliver on a reputation of consistent reliability of function. Steel cased to endure whatever the environments or activity may deal it, this ammunition is designed to go off when it needs to.
