Prvi Partizan - Jacketed Hollow Point - 85 Grain 7.62mm Tokarev Ammo - 50 Rounds

In 1930 the Soviets began looking for a replacement sidearm for their 1895 Nagant revolvers. Russian doctrine dictated that the caliber be .30, or 7.62 mm to match all the boring tools of their arsenals, and the popularity of the Mauser C96 pistol was well established. So much so that the smaller framed model was nicknamed the “Bolo” which some claim was a variation on the word “Bolshevik.” In any case, the Soviets new carridge, was the7.62 Tokarev and was very closely modeled on the Mauser’s 7.63x25 cartridge. So much so that the two calibers will fit and fire from the other’s chambers. However, the Tokarev round is almost always loaded to higher pressures that exceed the safety limits of the Mauser pistol. PPU’s 85 grain hollow point bullet has a muzzle velocity of 1675 feet per second with 529 foot pounds of energy. This is an acceptable defensive round that has more ballistic energy than a .40 S&W and is close to comparable with a .357. Care should be taken about over penetration, however.

Partizan continues to provide commercial ammunition in alternate calibers not often seen from western commercial makers. Quality controls are dictated by the Serbian military, a nation that has often been at odds with its neighbors and therefor places a premium on reliable ammunition. These cases are labeled Berdan, however, and are not reloadable.
