Details

Up to, and through World War II, the Soviets primarily relied on the 7.62 Tokarev as their pistol and submachine gun round. While quite potent in delivering ballistic results, the side arm for it, the TT-30 and TT-33, had some reliability problems that were never quite satisfactorily solved. Therefore, while seeking an upgrade, the Soviets favored simplicity. The 9mm Makarov was designed for a direct blowback pistol to obtain that simplicity and, more importantly, reliability. During the 1950s it quickly became the primary sidearm caliber for all Warsaw Pact/Eastern Bloc countries. The flex tip, 95 grain bullet by Hornady has a muzzle velocity of 1000 feet per second with 211 foot pounds of energy. This is a personal defense round ideal for use in the many affordable mil surplus handguns from Eastern Europe.

Hornady has been making premium hunting and self defense ammunition since the 1960s. Their flex tip bullet design maximizes aerodynamic performance with expansion to transfer all the kinetic energy into the target for maximum stopping power. The nylon tip may also omit this ammunition from bans against hollow points (check local laws), but it certainly helps reduce clogging while penetrating heavy clothing. Nickel plated cases are boxer primed for reloading purposes.
