Details

Three years after Winchester introduced their .308 in 1952, the necked down .243 was presented for shooters looking for a long range target and hunting round yet with lower recoil. Because of the narrower bullet diameter, the .243 is a flatter shooting round with an impressive long distance accuracy thanks to its longer longitudinal axis. Also this round offers better penetrative ballistics because of the bullet dimensions. While bullets weighing under 90 grains are ideal for target and silhouette shooting as well as varmint hunting, the heavier rounds are acceptable for deer and other similar sized game where it is appreciated by younger and smaller framed shooters in particular for its reduced kick.

This 95 grain Vital Shok bullet by Federal has a muzzle velocity of 3025 foot pounds with 1930 foot pounds of energy. This is a hunting cartridge designed for premium performance.

Federal’s use of Nosler Ballistic Tip ammunition is the perfect merging of a superior poly tipped bullet to a high quality, well known cartridge maker. The aerodynamics and terminal ballistic performance of this bullet is well established. Since the 1920’s Federal has provided sportsmen with the best in domestic production of powder and boxer primed cases.
