Details

When the Russians updated to modern, smokeless powder, small bore firearms at the end of the 19th century, they made the decision to keep everything in a common bore diameter, the 7.62. When it came time to adopt a new sidearm they chose a caliber and a revolver design that was unique to the vast empire: the 7.62 Nagant. This cartridge might appear to be a wadcutter with the bullet mounted within the case, but the case rim is meant to help provide a gas seal so all the gasses are used to propel the projectile on its way to the target.

The 97 grain full metal jacketed round by Magtech has a muzzle velocity of 1082 feet per second with 250 foot pounds of energy. This is a good target shooting and range training round for any of the surviving surplus Russian revolvers in the original chambering.

Fiocchi offers older, less common calibers for military collectors to keep their historic examples firing away at the range. The Italian munitions maker began in the latter part of the 19th century and remained at the forefront of the technological innovations of self-contained cartridges with smokeless powder. Offered with boxer primers for reloaders, Fiocchi continues to maintain its position at the head of modern ammo design.
