It is an interesting point to ponder if John Browning knew, when he introduced the .380 Automatic Colt Pistol cartridge in 1908, that the caliber would be continuously upgraded to keep it on the cutting edge of shooting technology. The .380, or 9mm short, was designed with simplicity in mind: that simplicity made the use of non breech locking firearms possible and firearms of relatively inexpensive yet with reliable functionality throughout the 20th century. Today the caliber is still popular for use in increasingly smaller pocket pistols where newer bullet types keep such a small platform hitting as hard as possible. Such is the case with Magtech's solid copper hollow point (schp), 77 grain bullet: it has a muzzle velocity of just under 1100 feet per second and 200 foot pounds of energy. The copper bullet is designed for controlled, consistent expansion, even through layers of clothing, and is lead free for ranges where that is prohibited.

Magtech, a CBC Group distributor, is one of the first distributors of solid copper projectiles. As a defense round, these are designed to expand to a very large diameter after penetration. The cost of such rounds is often the one detractor, yet Magtech's pricing remains compellingly competitive. Additionally, the nickel plated brass cases have boxer primers and are reloadable.
