Details

Spain adopted the 7x57 Mauser cartridge in 1892 and the rifle in that chamber the following year. As a first generation smokeless powder military round, it almost literally upset the balance in the field in both the Spanish American War and the Second Boer War, where its long range accuracy decimated the British, encouraging them to redesign their own .303 to compete. As a sporting round, it is perhaps more famous by its British designation, the .275 Rigby. Its relatively comfortable recoil and versatility in accepting bullet variations made it a popular choice for deer to man eating big cats in Africa and Asia to charging elephants. The 139 grain soft point bullet by Sellier & Bellot exits the muzzle at 2651 feet per second with 3170 foot pounds of energy. It is a competent hunting round guaranteeing superior penetration and expansion.

Sellier & Bellot has been offering premium hunting and sporting ammunition for decades on the commercial market. Before that, their ammunition experience goes back to a founding in the 1820’s in Bohemia where they have remains a munitions producer to this day. S&B has maintained a reputation for reliability and quality, right down to the reloadability of their brass cases, a definite plus to shooters who reload their sporting rifle cartridges for custom loads.
