Details

.45-70 ammo was introduced in 1873 for use in the Springfield trapdoor service rifle for the US Army. Developed in the not yet recognized closing days of large bore, black powder ammunition, the “.45 Govt” provided comparatively impressive range, accuracy and knockdown capabilities. Outside the military it was adopted as a competent buffalo hunting cartridge and to this day in modern loads and chambers it remains a popular cartridge for medium to large, even dangerous game. These loads by Ultramax seek to offer a competitive cartridge to the sport of cowboy action shooting trading maximum terminal ballistics for clean and consistent accuracy. Their 405 grain, lead round nosed bullet can reach a muzzle velocity of 1100 feet per second with 940 foot pounds. They are ideal for the vintage, single shot style rifles used for reenactment target competitions.

Since 1986, Ultramax of South Dakota has been a manufacturer of quality modern lines of pistol and rifle ammunition, and provides the same attention to dependability to their line of cowboy loads. SASS shooters, as well as others, are particularly attracted to the company’s 19th century inspired labelling. The ammo, however, is all modern using non corrosive powder and primers with reloadable cases.
