Details

The .45-70 Government was introduced in 1873 as a stop gap round for the new US service rifle, the 1873 Trapdoor Springfield. This is the rile the US Army used to fight in the Wild West in the Indian wars, and was a popular buffalo hunting caliber. While there were a few other variants, this round represents the last of the US military’s cartridges that relied on large, heavy bullets powered by black powder before being replaced by the 6.5 Lee and .30-40 Krag. Today it remains a popular round for cowboy action shooting, for which it is relatively loaded light for safe use in antique firearms. Black Hills’ 405 grain flat nose bullet is loaded to the same specifications of the original US Army specs. It is ideal for target shooting and cowboy competitions. The flat nosed bullet is also safe for use in tube magazine rifles of this caliber.

Cowboy action shooting is done against a clock, and when milliseconds count, reliability is paramount. That is the need that Black Hills has built their entire reputation upon: dependable and consistent performance. Their cases are boxer primed for additional reloading of this caliber, with the light loads offering extended reloading life.
