Details

Introduced in 1929, .38 Super ammunition was merely a supercharged .38 Automatic Colt Pistol cartridge designed to give the Colt Model 1911 pistol an alternative caliber with better penetrative capabilities. When it came to crime fighting, most police officers were trained with revolvers, so when the .357 Magnum came about, the .38 Super‘s popularity somewhat waned outside of people “in the know”. However, the flat shooting cartridge has experienced a sort of renaissance among competition shooters. Its physical similarity to the .38 ACP round has made it necessary to mark the Super as a +P cartridge and it should not be fired in .38 ACP chambers.

Federal’s American Eagle 130 grain full metal jacketed round has a muzzle velocity of 1200 ft per sec with 416 ft lbs of energy. This 1000 round case is ideal for training as well as being more than suitable for competitions.

American Eagle by Federal has all the quality and manufacturing expertise of a company that has been a manufacturing titan of superior performance ammunition at a cost that will not break the bank. Manufactured on reloadable brass cases only sweetens the deal for shooters and reloaders of this less than common and under-valued, but surprisingly zippy and impressive cartridge.
