Details

Often selected as an introductory rifle round for deer hunting, the .243 Winchester also proves to be quite a versatile round with the heavier (90+ grain) bullets suitable for deer hunting and lighter bullets for varmint hunting as well as long range target shooting. Based off of a necked down .308 Winchester, the .243 was introduced three years after its parent case in 1955 for much the same reasons the .270 Winchester was developed from the .30-06 as a small bore flat shooting cartridge. The 100 grain, soft point bullet by Hornady exits the muzzle at 2960 feet per second with 1945 foot pounds of energy. This is perfect for deer hunting by novices, junior hunters and sport shooters of shorter stature with or without recoil sensitivity.

For dependable sporting and defense applications, the Hornady name is well established across the entirety of the US firearms enthusiasts’ market. Started in the 1940’s as a bullet jacket manufacturer, Hornady began making its own ammunition in the 1960’s and since has not only made complete cartridges under their own banner but ammo components for custom reloaders and smaller corporations as well. For further value, their brass cases are boxer primed and reloadable.
