Developed in 1957 and introduced in 1959, the .45 Casull was a wildcat cartridge developed from a lengthened .45 Long Colt. It was not until 40 years later until the good people at Ruger chambered their Super Redhawk in the caliber, making it commercially available. Taurus followed suit soon after with its Raging Bull. Firearms in the .454 can also fire the .45 Long Colt, .45 Schofield and even the .45 ACP with half or full moon clips, making it delightfully compliant in finding it something to feed at the range or in an ammo supply pinch. Magtech’s 260 grain full metal jacketed round has a muzzle velocity of 1800 feet per second with 1871 foot pounds of energy. It is presented as a range training or target practice cartridge, ideal for silhouette competitions as well, but with these ballistics it is still quite capable of doing much more.
