Details

Developed 1896 and re-released in smokeless powder in 1905, th e.32 Smith & Wesson Long was introduced with S&W’s new revolver design, the hand ejector with swing out cylinder. The .32 Long was simply a lengthened case of the then 20 year old S&W .32 (now short) and was an immediate commercial and shooting success for its accuracy. Colt’s version (.32 Colt) is virtually identical but for a flat nosed bullet instead of the S&W round. While not as popular today, the .32 S&W Long’s accuracy is still remarkable and high end target pistols are chambered in this caliber for competition with wadcutter bullets. It can also be used in revolvers chambered for .32 H&R or the .327 Federal magnums. The 98 grain lead wadcutter by Magtech has a muzzle velocity of 682 feet per second with 101 foot pounds of energy. Ideally for matches, the wadcutter bullets are not a bad choice for personal defense in this caliber for its easy recoil and if more potent defense rounds (hollow point) are restricted.

Magtech’s line of range and training ammo has kept enthusiasts making noise since their introduction in 1990. That commercial success has led to the availability of other types of ammo as well. The reloadable cases bring greater value to shooters of this uncommon caliber.
