Details

Introduced in 1990 as essentially a 10mm Auto “short” the .40 Smith & Wesson was developed to maintain the terminal ballistics of the 10mm while being more manageable in recoil. The Federal Bureau of Investigation briefly adopted the 10mm as a replacement for the 9mm Luger but quickly found that agent marksmanship suffered, especially in follow up shots. The .40, developed by Federal and S&W, fires the same bullet out of a shorter case essentially bridging the end results of a 9mm and a .45: when firing a lighter bullet to these energies it means more velocity, and this also means more recoil. The full metal jacketed, 165 grain bullet by PRVI has a muzzle velocity of 1010 ft per sec with 408 ft lbs of energy. This is ideal for range training with a duty weapon as its recoil will closely approximate defense ammo performance.

The only thing worse on range day than missing the target is running out of ammunition. PRVI has it covered with 500 rounds of boxer primed, reloadable cases and bulk pricing. Started in 1928 as the primary munitions maker of Yugoslavia, then more recently Serbia, the PRVI/PPU headstamp has become a welcomed presence at US shooting ranges and reloading presses since the end of the 1990’s.
