Details

Before the dawn of the 20th century, many nations moved away from large slow bullets in favor of smaller, more high powered options. Britain's adoption of smaller caliber rifle rounds at the end of the 19th century saw the introduction of the .303 in 1888, then again in 1891 with smokeless propellant. For the next 70 years, the .303 was used by the United Kingdom and all Commonwealth forces through two World Wars and numerous conflicts or police actions. As a commercial hunting round, it is capable of effectively dealing with almost all North American game, with the possible exception of larger bears. The 180 grain jacketed, soft point bullet exits the barrel at around 2570 feet per second with over 2630 foot pounds of energy. While good for target shooting out of the popular surplus Enfield rifle, it is designed as a hunting round for firearms chambered in the caliber such as a great many Enfields that have been "sporterized" for said purpose.

PRVI Partizan began in the 1920s as the primary ammunition maker for Yugoslavia. Today, Partizan is the primary munitions maker for the Serbian military as well as for civilian export. Their brass cases with boxer primers are a primary source of reloading material for reloaders of less common calibers – such as the .303 Enfield round.
