300 Win Mag Ammo

The .300 Winchester Magnum is a long-range cartridge designed to fit in standard-length (i.e., non-magnum) rifle actions such as those of the Remington 700. It is used by both hunters and military/police snipers due to its accuracy and strong terminal ballistics. Compared to other rifle rounds, .300 Win Mag ammo produces above-average recoil and muzzle blast but also has a flatter trajectory and greater effective range.

.300 Win Mag ammunition fires a 165-200 grain bullet (sometimes heavier with competition loads) at a muzzle velocity of around 3,000 feet per second, with some variation due to weight. Hunters typically favor soft point bullets for strong expansion without excessive damage to meat or trophies; such bullets produce a mushrooming effect but do not fragment heavily. Competitive long-range shooters, on the other hand, tend to gravitate to heavy, precision-oriented projectiles like the Siera MatchKing.
