6.5X54 Mannlicher Ammo

6.5 Mannlicher Ammo Uses and History

Developed in the late 19th century for the Mannlicher-Schonauer rifle, the 6x54mm Mannlicher is an accurate cartridge renowned for its very strong penetration--so strong, in fact, that it was once used for elephant hunting despite its relatively low caliber compared to dedicated big game cartridges. For such purposes, hunters favored a dense 160 grain bullet fired at about 2,500 feet per second. Lighter projectiles in the 140 grain range are more suitable for thin-skinned game such as deer.

The most prominent users of 6.5x54mm Mannlicher ammo were the Greek army from 1906 to 1941, and the Austrian army during World War I.

Prvi Partizan of Serbia is probably the most prolific manufacturer of 6.5x54mm Mannlicher ammunition today. Their soft point load is new production and excels against a wide variety of game.
