17 HM2 Ammo

.17 HM2 ammo was introduced in 2004 by Hornady. Though smaller than the earlier .17 HMR (with which it is not interchangeable), the HM2 delivers about 2,100 feet per second of muzzle velocity with a 17 grain projectile--a devastating combination capable of taking most varmints with ease.

The flat trajectory and spitzer profile of the .17 HM2 give it an effective range of about 175 yards, making it much better for extended-range pest control than many other rimfire rounds.

The .17 HM2 is based on the .22 LR, making it possible for many bolt action rifles chambered in one cartridge to be converted easily to the other by swapping barrels.
