Details

The .223 Remington cartridge is among the most popular rifle cartridges in the world, but especially in the United States. Its widespread use as a target and varmint hunting round pales to its bulk use for preppers for stockpiling in anticipation of civil collapse. It appears that that is a primary consideration of Barnaul’s Silver Bear Ammunition. Especially in half cased, 500 round lots. The 55 grain, full metal jacketed round has a muzzle velocity of 3130 feet per second with approximately 130 foot pounds behind it. This is a training or practice round, though perfectly capable of serving in many defensive scenarios. Because the.223 Remington can be fired in 5.56mm NATO chambers, its versatility is only enhanced. However, care should be taken not to fire 5.56 in .223 chambers.

The munitions plant in Barnaul was founded in Russia during the 19th century but was relocated to its current location during World War II. It has provided ammo for both the Soviet and Russian state militaries as well as for commercial export. The Silver Bear line gets its name from the use of zinc coating on the steel cases as a further protection against the elements. Cases are also berdan primed, however, shooters find the initial economy of cost quite acceptable to the inability to reload the cases.
