Details

Descended from the first American metallic cartridge for use by Smith & Wesson the .22 rimfire short was developed in 1857 initially as a self defense round. Certainly it is an anemic cartridge by modern standards, it served as a deterrent for decades before specialty bullets were used in everything from carnival gallery guns and extremely small defense pocket pistols. The 29 grain lead round nosed bullet by Winchester has a muzzle velocity of just over 1000 feet per second with 70 foot pounds of energy. It is good for use as a close range varmint round or use in .22 LR firearms that can chamber it for indoor target ranges. Or simply use it for discrete outdoor use, as training or pest control.

Winchester ammunition is made under the direction of the Olin Corporation at their plant in Clayton, Missouri. The Winchester white box has become a hallmark of reliability and name brand quality to American shooters all over. The versatility and ease of use of the .22 short has equally become a hallmark of shooting entertainment for over 160 years. Keep on hand to train the youngins, or simply to scratch that itchy trigger finger.
