Details

When the US military decided to replace the .45 revolver cartridge, there was a bit of a learning curve as the first replacement, the .38 Colt, proved to not deliver the desired results when used in the Philippines against the Moros fighters. The patron saint of American gunmaking, John Moses Browning, however, delivered the .45 Automatic Colt cartridge, which was fully adopted by 1911. While the knockdown potential of the round is somewhat exaggerated, the larger caliber and transfer of energy directly into the target instead of pushing the bullet right on through, has made the .45 ACP a beloved choice of not only American shooters, but many others around the world. The 230 grain full metal jacket bullet by Tula has a muzzle velocity of 850 feet per second with over 350 foot pounds of energy. It is perfect for training at the range, and while not premium for self-defense, many shooters also rely on its tendency to not "over penetrate" in home defense.

Tula Cartridge Works is closely associated with the Tula arsenal in Moscow, Russia. The Cartridge Works produces ammunition for both the Russian military and for commercial export. Due to the steel cases, it can be readily dismissed as military surplus, but the .45 ACP by Tula is boxer primed, so enterprising reloaders can recycle these cases for further value.
