Details

.45 Schofield ammunition is the result of a recommendation by Major George Schofield to Smith & Wesson for their Model 3 revolver. The result was a quick reloading revolver that cavalry men could operate on the fly. The capability of the Schofield round to be safely loaded and fired from the more commonly seen Colt 1873, SAA made it the primary sidearm caliber for the US military from 1875 to the early 1890s. This answered any logistical concerns and allowed individual officers to choose for themselves which revolver to use. The 180 grain flat nosed bullet by Black Hills Ammunition has a stated muzzle velocity of 730 feet per second with 213 foot pounds of energy. This is a wonderful round for use in firing replicas and even certified safe antiques.

While developing an increasingly broader line of ammunition for modern chambers, the South Dakota munitions maker Black Hills has an established credibility with cowboy re enactors and competitive shooters for dependable performing cartridges. While the product branding implies a 19th century feel to it, the ammo itself is made to full modern standards including reloadable cases and non corrosive powder and primers.
