Details

The .22 Short was introduced in 1857, thirty years before the vastly more popular .22 Long Rifle, by Smith & Wesson for their first model revolver and is notable for being the first American metallic cartridge to be developed. 160 years later, it is still in use. Often seen for use as in gallery guns, its complete lack of recoil and minimum noise makes it very popular among new shooters as well as owners of antique firearms chambered exclusively in this caliber. In tube fed rifles that are capable of loading and firing .22LR and .22 Short, using the latter turns such guns into high capacity weapons as well. It is also very popular for use in unofficial, indoor ranges. The 27 grain hollow point bullet by CCI leaves the muzzle at up to 1105 feet per second with 73 foot pounds of energy. The HP bullet makes it the optimum choice in this caliber for varmint hunting and pest control.

Cascade Cartridge Incorporated (CCI) was founded in the early 1950s by Dick Speer, brother of Speer Bullets founder Vernon Speer. They are among the highest quality manufacturer of rimfire cartridges, though their dependability is also extended to centerfire cartridges as well.
