Details

As far as recreational and target shooting in the US, the .223 Remington is perhaps the most popular rifle round in the country. Developed in the 1960’s in response to the US military’s desire to find a small caliber, high performance round to increase the number of rounds carried by the typical infantryman. It is also very versatile in that the round may be safely fired in firearms chambered in 5.56 NATO. While this is not true of 5.56 in .223 chambers as the pressure is too much for the latter. Never the less, shooters find the slightly lower pressure of the .223 to make that round more accurate in either firearms. The 55 grain bullet by Federal has a muzzle velocity of 3240 feet per second with 1282 foot pounds of energy. It is a round made with the intent of range training as well as matches, competitions, and civil defense.

In 1922 Federal began making ammunition in earnest. From the woods of Minnesota, cartridges from Federal quickly founded a reputation for being reliable and consistent in performance. Of course made with brass cases with boxer primers, the reloadable nature of this 500 round lot means more value to shooters of this caliber.
