Details

Originally billed as a varmint round that was often questioned for being good enough for military service, the .223 Remington has evolved since its 1962 introduction to becoming a round capable of dealing with medium sized game in the field thanks to ever evolving bullet designs. The cartridge is also wonderful diversified in that it can be safely fired in 5.56 NATO chambers (though vice versa is not recommended: 5.56 NATO should not be fired in .223 Remington chambers). Well suited for coyotes as well as smaller game, new bullet types are available to provide use against deer and more. The 62 grain bullet bearing Federal’s Fusion banner has a muzzle velocity of 3000 feet per second with 1239 foot pounds of energy. This is a high quality sport hunting cartridge for use in dedicated precision firearms rifled for the heavier .223 load.

Fusion by Federal is the new bullet type with an electrochemically fused copper jacketing to the lead core for complete retention of mass when penetrating the game for deeper travel while providing optimal expansion. As with all Federal ammunition, cases are boxer primed for further value down the road.
