460 S&W Ammo

The .460 S&W Magnum is a high-pressure revolver cartridge that excels at taking medium and large sized game; for this reason, it is a favorite of handgun hunters despite its heavy recoil and significant cost. A typical .460 S&W Mag load fires a 300 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of about 2,000 feet per second, delivering strong medium-range performance against a wide variety of game.

A longer, more powerful version of the already-powerful .454 Casull, the .460 S&W Magnum was introduced in 2005 by Hornady and Smith & Wesson. It uses a large rifle primer and operates at rifle-level chamber pressures.

Given the ballistic potential of this cartridge, it's no surprise that manufacturers producing .460 S&W ammo tend to be those specializing in powerful loads. Notable manufacturers of factory rounds for this caliber include Buffalo Bore, Corbon, and Federal.
