Details

Introduced in 1952, the .308 Winchester is the culmination of decades of development to make a .30 caliber service round fire out of a shorter case for more reliable cycling in self-loading weapons. So successful was it that its doppelganger (7.62x51) was adopted by NATO two years later. The result is a caliber so globally common it is almost as prolific as Russia’s 7.62x39. However, the .308 hits much harder and travels far more accurately over longer distances.

This is SP 7.62x39 ammo, meaning it’s loaded with a projectile that has a soft point. The soft point, boat tailed, 150 grain bullet by Hornady has been measured leaving the muzzle at up to 2820 feet per second with 2648 foot pounds of energy. Though perfect for competitions, its primary purpose is for hunting anything from boar on up to and including elk.

Hornady began life as a bullet jacket maker during World War II and has since grown to making not only their own ammunition in the 1960’s but to today making among the most premium of cartridges in the world. They are a benchmark manufacturer of not only completed rounds but also of ammunition components. This 200 round lot is ideal for sighting in that sporting rifle and keeping more ammo on hand, “just in case” after the gaming season is over.
