Details

Introduced in 1952, while the .308 Winchester was designed to duplicate the military performance of the .30-06 Springfield but in a shorter case that was more suitable to semi and full automatic weapons it became a very popular target and sporting round. The military version was adopted two years later as the 7.62x51 NATO and it is physically identical to the .308 Winchester, albeit the latter is loaded just a bit hotter. Both rounds can be used in each other’s chambers however. The polymer tip, 168 grain bullet by Hornady has a muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second with 2719 foot pounds of energy. It is ballistically similar to the V-Max bullet by Hornady, with a more pop culture marketing theme: zombies. Of course. Never the less, this is a premium hunting and defense round capable of dealing with anything walking on the North American continent, not just the walking dead.

Hornady began ammunition production in the 1960’s after almost two decades of bullet jacket manufacturing out of spent rimfire brass. Since then, it has become a trusted name in sporting and defense ammunition circles, and with very good reason. Hornady defense ammo is what many law enforcement agents carry in their on and off duty weapons, and the max line of rifle ammunition is what is used for tactical situations as well.
