Details

Chosen as a replacement for the service 9mm Luger of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1990, the .40 Smith & Wesson was half again as heavy as the 9mm with a velocity that tries to match it in velocity, delivering more kinetic energy into the target. Essentially developed as a 10mm Auto short, the 165 grain round delivered the desired ballistics yet with a recoil that still tended to be more than many agents were comfortable with. The 180 grain, however, is a little slower and less snappy: delivering energy similar to a .45 acp. The 180 grain fully encapsulated bullet by Magtech has a muzzle velocity of 990 feet per second with 392 foot pounds of energy behind it. The encapsulated bullet seals the lead within a full jacket removing the threat of lead particles being discharged into the air: making this a perfect round for training and target shooting in indoor ranges.

Magtech’s reputation as a manufacturer of dependable and economical range ammunition has been built up from their introduction in 1990. Built with quality components and reloadable cases with boxer primers, the company’s reputation for reliability extends to their expanding line of quality, purpose built defense and indoor training ammunition.
