Details

The .454 Casull chamber is capable of taking .45 Long Colt, .45 Schofield and .45 ACP with moon clips. However, when maximum effort is required, there is the Casull. Designed in 1957 as a wildcat by Jack Fullmer and Dick Casull, it remained a custom load for forty years until Ruger introduced the chambering in the Super Redhawk in 1997. Its intention is for the hunting of medium to large sized game, competitive silhouette competitions and of course, personal protection against large predators such as bears (or velociraptors). The solid copper, 225 grain hollow point bullet by Magtech leaves the muzzle at 1640 feet per second with 1344 foot pounds of energy. This is a round designed for deep penetration and maximum expansion without losing its mass or jacketing, and is therefore a hunting or personal defense round.

Magtech’s expansion under the CBC Group since 1990 has been notable: from range training and target rounds to purpose specific, the company has become a primary provider of ammunition to every one of the shooting disciplines. The solid copper bullet has not jacketing to lose on contact and therefore maintains its mass for maximum penetration into the toughest hides. And still, the cases are reloadable for custom handloaders of this potent cartridge.
