Details

Remington developed the 6.8 Special Purpose Carbine round in 2002. It was designed to be a bridge between the 5.56 and 7.62 NATO cartridges. A lighter weight version of the same bullet used in the .270 Winchester loaded in a similar case as the .223 Remington, the 6.8 was intended to be a heavier hitting round for the service M4 Carbine. While the ballistics offer a harder hitting round, the long range practicality of the round is not, according to the military brass, worth the full scale replacement of the rifles in service. Nevertheless, the caliber has found acceptance among special forces as well as hunters for upscaling their AR style rifles to something harder hitting at close to medium ranges. The 115 grain open tip match bullet by Remington Express has a muzzle velocity of 2625 feet per second with 1759 foot pounds.

Remington Express bullets are designed for optimum target performance. The company name is synonymous with American shooting sports quality and has been so for over two hundred years: no where has that been more true than with their centerfire ammunition production. Remington brass is well suited for reloading and their bullet and powder standards are what other companies shoot for. Literally.
