222 Rem Ammo

".222 Remington ammo (also known as 5.7x43mm in metric terms) is the predecessor of the incredibly successful .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO cartridges. Introduced in 1950, it works well for hunting small or medium sized game animals or varmints. The .222 Rem performs similarly to its progeny, firing a 55 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of 3,000 feet per second and delivering excellent medium range accuracy.

With jacketed hollow point bullets, the .222 Remington performs well against coyotes and other varmints. Soft point bullets are also available and work well for hunting small to midsize game. While harder to find than .223/5.56 NATO, .222 Rem ammo is still made by a number of manufacturers including Prvi Partizan, Winchester, Federal, Hornady, and Fiocchi.
