Details

The rimmed 6.5x57mm was one of the many new smokeless powder designs of the late 19th century. Developed for the Hungarian half of the Austro Hungarian Empire. The cartridge is also known as the .256 Mannlicher and was used by the Dutch military up until 1945. It remains a very popular deer and boar hunting cartridge in Europe where it is appreciated for its accuracy and its reputation for creating precise wounds without a lot of damage to the game meat. The 131 grain soft point bullet by Sellier & Bellot has a muzzle velocity of 2543 feet per second with 1882 foot pounds of energy. It is similar to the 6.5mm rounds that has succeeded it in military service yet remains valued by many hunters for being on point, just the way it is. Just the round necessary for keeping that custom European hunting rifle with you in the field.

Sellier & Bellot was probably among the first manufacturers of the 6.5x57R for use within the Dual Monarchy: the company was begun within Bohemia in the early 1800’s and has served as both military and commercial producer for almost two hundred years. Shooters appreciate the fine quality and fully reloadable cases for such an esoteric cartridge.
