Details

Introduced in 1952, the .308 Winchester round was initially developed as a potential military replacement for the .30-06 Springfield due to the latter cartridge’s somewhat excessive case length when it came to operating in semi or full automatic firearms. While the 7.62 NATO round adopted in 1954 served that purpose, the .308 Winchester – which is physically identical to the NATO round – has remained a very popular hunting cartridge as well as a tactical option for both military and police forces. The 180 grain soft point bullet by Sellier & Bellot exits the muzzle at 2300 feet per second with approximately 2300 foot pounds of energy. This is a well suited, easy shooting target round, but really comes into its own as a hunting cartridge where the soft point provides ballistic consistency as well as enlarging the wound channel in game to ensure a quick drop.

Founded in Bohemia in the 1820’s Sellier & Bellot’s reputation as a manufacturer of both ammunition and munitions components is well established in Europe and has a growing popularity in the US. Loaded in reloadable brass cases, S&B bullets provide dependable service with almost two hundred years of industry experience behind them.
