Details

While the .223 Remington is over half a century old since its introduction in 1961, it remains a very popular choice for target shooting, small game hunting and civil defense. This is largely because of its high performance to low cost ratio, delivering impressive ballistics for relatively little cost when compared to other rounds. An additional value of the .223 caliber is that it is safe to fire out of 5.56 NATO chambers, though the reverse is not true, which makes stocking up on .223 ammunition particularly wise as its utility is at least twice as much as the NATO round. These 700 rounds by Barnaul are particularly designed for stacking deep so they’re perfect for preppers.

The 55 grain full metal jacketed round has a muzzle velocity of approximately 3240 feet per second with 1282 foot pounds of energy. They are intended for use in range or weapons familiarity training as well as casual to professional target shooting.

Barnaul has been an official Russian arsenal and ammunition manufacturing facility since the 1800’s when it was founded near St. Petersburg. Moved further west in World War II to evade the German invasion, the plant continues to provide both for the military forces of the Russian Federation as well as for commercial export. The zing coated, steel cases are berdan primed, and not ideal for reloading, but intended for economic acquisition and dependable performance, even after long term storage.
