Details

The popularity of the .223 Remington rifle round cannot be exaggerated. Whether for varmint hunting, target shooting or for civil defense, the .223’s ability to be safely and accurately fired in multiple chambers (5.56mm for example) is but one reason. Another is the overwhelming popularity of the AR style of rifles. And finally, there is the economy of price when compared to other, standard “varmint sized” calibers. The bullet’s hyper velocity makes up for any perceived deficiencies of its demure size. Silver Bear’s 62 grain hollow point bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2923 ft per sec and approximately 1300 ft pounds of energy. It is a cartridge meant for target practice and range training, though is one of the bullet types ideal for defense.

Silver Bear is manufactured in the Russian arsenal of Barnaul to military standards. The arsenal has an established reputation for dependable ammo, even though it was uprooted during World War II to its current location. For additional value, while the steel, Berdan primed cases are not reloadable, they are coated with a shiny zinc plating for further protection against the elements and for ease of feeding in semi-automatic firearms.
